My mom drinks Smirnoff ice

My mom drinks Smirnoff ice

And my dad drinks beer

like soda pop.

My mom has anger marks

between her eyebrows and

my dad has extra skin

around his eyes.

But they both know scars

and stains,

shirts with grease,

dirt under fingernails,

and bruises from hard work.

My mom gets hers

from falling

And my dad’s are from the

weight he tries to carry.

He has thick eyebrows

And my moms are light

like washed out mud stains.

But they both have lines.

Lines tickled and traced by

antennas of past pests,

Lines around eyes that branch out,

Lines that were once open flesh,

Lines around their mouths,

And lines on their hands.
